About Wakefield Inn and Restaurant

Historic Lodging & Warm Hospitality

History
The Wakefield Inn & Restaurant, formerly known as the Spiral Staircase Inn and the Elmwood Inn dates to 1804. The Inn was originally built for Seaman William Frost who wanted to own the largest tallest (3 stories) and grandest home in Wakefield Corner.

In 1890, the home was converted to an Inn, where guests, for many years, were transported by stage coach.  Wakefield Corner was considered the center of town because of 6 stage coach lines and in 1895 the railroad began providing transportation for the Inn's guests from Wakefield's 5 train stations.

Warm Hospitality with an Ideal Location
The Inn is your ideal base to explore and enjoy the spectacular beauty and tranquility of the unspoiled countryside of New England.

Enjoy the day exploring the beautiful New Hampshire White Mountains, Lakes Region or the Seacoast of New Hampshire and the seacoast of Maine - each of which is less than one hour away.

If relaxing is on your agenda, plan to spend time in the immediate area visiting nearby museums, gift and antique shops, driving along scenic by-ways or enjoying some of the great outdoor sports and water activities.  Within walking distance (open on Saturday mornings in the summer) are the historic Wakefield Library, former Wakefield Town Hall where the First Congregational Church runs the Treasure Chest and the Stage Coach Museum.

The Inn has many unique features, the most spectacular of which is the “flying” spiral staircase which gracefully spirals up to the third floor with no center pole support. On the first floor there is a 3-sided fireplace that includes a beehive oven. The Inn also has a wrap around front porch, which is a favorite place to sit and relax in the cool, crisp mountain air. Savor your first cup of coffee and watch the sun rise.

Modern amenities include private baths for each room, a refrigerator for our guests and free wireless internet throughout the Inn.

Private Functions
The Wakefield Inn is a perfect location to host private functions, such as a wedding receptions, bridal and anniversary parties or your family reunion. Please call to schedule a tour to discuss your next event.

The Family
Innkeepers Dino and Colleen Nicastro along with their daughter Christina Nicastro, the Executive Chef, Nick Nicastro, the Restaurant Manager, Vincenzo Nicastro and Giacomo Nicastro, their Grandson's are all on hand to make sure that your stay is both enjoyable and memorable.

The Wakefield Inn is incredibly charming. We definitely enjoyed the Wakefield Inn and would recommend it to anyone looking to experience a “Real New England B&B.” You'll definitely get spoiled here!
